Flag of Armenia

The flag of Armenia consists of three horizontal bands of equal width, from top to bottom: red, blue, and orange (sometimes described as "apricot" or "amber"). The flag was officially adopted on August 24, 1990, shortly before Armenia declared its independence from the Soviet Union.

Here is the symbolic meaning of the colors, according to common interpretations:

  1. Red: Represents the blood shed by Armenian soldiers in defense of their land, as well as the Armenian people's continuing struggle for survival, and their Christian faith. It may also symbolize the Armenian Highland itself.

  2. Blue: Represents the Armenian people's will to live under peaceful skies, as well as hope and the serene and promising sky of the country.

  3. Orange (or Apricot/Amber): Represents the creativity, talent, and hard-working nature of the Armenian people. It may also symbolize the country's fertile land and the courage of the citizens.

The flag’s design is rooted in the colors of the national symbols and emblems of the medieval Armenian kingdom, and the Armenian people have a long history of using these colors for their flags and emblems.

The flag does not contain any specific symbols, emblems, or other elements; it is defined solely by its colors and proportions. The simplicity of the design helps to make it distinctive and easily recognizable.
